The Bruges Begijnhof (beguinage) has been a World Heritage Site since 1998. The belfry was added a year later, and in 2000 the entire historic centre of Bruges was placed on the list. In 2009 the annual event, the Procession of the Holy Blood, was also identified as intangible cultural heritage. Bruges not only has a valuable architectural heritage and history, it is also fame for its brick-Gothic buildings. The original and integrated medieval fabric of the city has also been retained.
