Visit Bruges handles your personal data with respect for your privacy. In this regard, we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which entered into force on 25 May 2018.

What is personal data?

Personal data is any data that enables Visit Bruges to recognise you, directly or indirectly. Personal data is therefore any data that we can link to you in some way, such as your e-mail address, telephone number or even IP address (the Internet address of your computer).

What do we do with personal data?

The personal data you provide to us are copied to the databases of which the City of Bruges is holder and processor.

You have the right to access, correct or delete these data free of charge.

The City of Bruges undertakes to diligently comply with the legislation on personal data protection. This legislation can be consulted on the website of the Data Protection Authority, formerly known as the Privacy Commission.

The City of Bruges is the 'controller'. That means that we decide which data we collect and for what purpose. In legal terms, we therefore determine the 'purpose of processing'. But that does not mean that every employee of the City of Bruges has access to all data. Your personal data is only handled by the services and employees who need it for their work.

Special and/or sensitive personal data we process

Visit Bruges does not process any special or sensitive personal data.

For what purpose and on what basis do we process personal data?

• You give us consent to use your personal data for a specific purpose. We will first correctly inform you about what this consent means, how you can easily withdraw your consent, with whom we will share your data and how long we intend to keep your data. That way, you can give your consent with full knowledge of the facts.
  For example:
  You give us your consent to use your personal data when you sign up for a newsletter.
• We process your personal data because you have entered into an agreement with Visit Bruges.
  For example:
  Have you solicited the services of Visit Bruges and booked a walk organised by Visit Bruges? Then you enter into an agreement for that. Among other things, the agreement will also state what we will use your personal data for.
• We process your personal data to comply with a legal obligation or mandate from European legislation, Federal laws or Flemish decrees and their implementing decrees. And in addition, the GDPR itself is often the legal basis, for example for statistical or scientific research and for archiving in the public interest.
  For example:
  Visit Bruges is obliged to request and keep records of guides, drivers, coachmen, etc. in order to issue a licence.
• We use your data to perform a task in the public interest or to carry out a task of public authority.
  For example:
  Visit Bruges may use personal data such as an e-mail address to inform registered visitors about important matters such as strikes, etc. There is no law that obliges us to do this. The city simply does this in the general interest of the Visitor.
   

For how long do we retain personal data

Visit Bruges will not retain your personal data for longer than is strictly necessary to fulfil the purposes for which your data is collected.

Use of ‘cookie technology’

The City of Bruges uses cookie technology to track how you arrived at the Visit Bruges site, to record how and how often the various pages of the website are visited, and to be able to better adapt the website to the needs and wishes of the user.

The City of Bruges does not use this technology to record information about individual users, so none of your personal information will be tracked and/or used. Please note that you can adjust your browser settings so that cookies are not accepted or that you receive a warning when any cookies are sent to you. Viewing, modifying or deleting data

You have the right to access, rectify or delete your personal data.

Visit Bruges takes the protection of your privacy and personal data seriously and takes appropriate organisational and technical measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorised access, unwanted disclosure and unauthorised modification.

If you nevertheless believe that your data is not secure enough or there are indications of misuse, please contact the data protection officer. You also have the right to lodge a complaint at any time with the data protection authority.
