Double bill: Robin Verheyen + Schouten/Courtois/Janssen
This second concert evening in the series at Turnzaal Howest is dedicated to four musicians who operate with a completely free spirit in the twilight zone between jazz, impro and classical. We kick off the evening with a masterful solo by saxophonist Robin Verheyen, in honour of his latest W.E.R.F. release, Playing The Room. Robin Verheyen moves effortlessly within different musical genres.
Afterwards, bass clarinettist Fie Schouten, cellist Vincent Courtois and pianist Guus Janssen will take you on an intriguing musical journey. Schouten masters contemporary and improvised music. Courtois is a respected force within the European jazz scene and pianist Janssen is not a brilliant improviser. Together they form a trio since 2021 and present their latest album Vostok - Remote Islands. Inspired by Judith Schalansky's Atlas of Remote Islands, 50 islands I never set foot on and never will, they perform poetic and evocative music that stimulates the imagination.
