Bruges Triennial 2018
Continuing the 2015 theme, the Bruges Triennial took the 2018 theme a step further with 'Liquid City'. An examination of what the future would hold for a city like Bruges and its society, inspired in part by the writings of Polish sociologist and philosopher Zygmunt Bauman (1925 – 2017). How flexible, fluid or resilient can a historic city like Bruges be in a time when the world is changing rapidly and everything is fluid and fleeting? Eight of the fourteen artists and architects invited chose a site on or along the water for their artwork or installation. Bruges as a literally liquid city, with water crossing through the city and ensuring its economic boom, prosperity, growth, culture, habitation, etc.
