Vlamingbrug (Flemings' Bridge)
Free Bridges and water Outdoor

Close your eyes and step back in time. To somewhere in the early 12th century. You'll find this is a hive of activity. Hard-working locals sweat and toil to erect the first city walls. At a stone's throw from the bridge, in the Pottenmakersstraat, you can still find the remains of a fortified tower, the only remnant of these ramparts. The workmen are also digging the little canal you see flowing here. The Flemings' Bridge itself dates from 1334, making it one of the oldest in the city. You can still recognise the places where people used to display their merchandise. They look like benches. The beautiful bay window in typical brick architecture on a corner house was the workshop of a 16th century goldsmith.
