Site Oud Sint-Jan (Old St John site)
The Old St John site is located in the heart of Bruges. Central to the estate is the 19th-century St John's Hospital with its central circular corridor and, at right angles to it, eight large, communal wards. Until the 1970s, this was the central hospital in Bruges. The wards now serve as a contemporary convention centre, but you will also find some temporary exhibition spaces there. The Old St John site has already brought in such exhibitions as Picasso, Andy Warhol, Leonardo da Vinci, Mummies and BodyWorlds. Harp concerts are also held there regularly. A tour of the estate will take you past the mediaeval St John's Hospital, the atmospheric Eleonora Verbeke Square, the artwork The veins of the convent, the tucked-away St John's Hospital Park and several restaurants, among others things.
