At Beursplein, many lives intersect. This is where you might spot the smartly dressed professionals, mums on cargo bikes, students getting some fresh air, but also fairgoers on a mission. A steady stream of people against the backdrop of the imposing Bruges Meeting and Convention Centre or BMCC. The state-of-the-art exhibition and conference infrastructure was erected in 2022, on the exact same spot where once stood a slaughterhouse and an earlier exhibition hall. The square was simultaneously renovated as part of a drive for urban renewal. The wide pavements are appreciated by the locals and the preservation of the 50-year-old beech trees met with approval. This way, the square retained its green character. Add to this a handful of benches and Philip Aguirre y Otegui's artwork ’De Bron’ (The Source) and you have a truly 21st-century city square in the middle of the West Bruges district.
