The Adornes family, who came from Genoa in Italy, built the estate during the 15th century. They built the Jerusalem Chapel, a number of almshouses and a mansion. The family chapel was consecrated in 1429 and was inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. A visit to the Adornes Estate – which is still owned by the family – is a great opportunity to get to know this prominent 15th century Bruges merchant family, in particular Anselm Adornes, who was the most famous descendant of the family. Trade, diplomacy and devotion were central themes of his life. Explore the temporary exhibitions on the grounds and enter the beautiful garden during the summer months. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the elegant, homely atmosphere of the Scottish Lounge.
