Sint-Janshuismolen (Sint-Janshuis Mill)

Windmills have graced Bruges’ ramparts ever since the construction of the outer city wall at the end of the 13th century. Today four specimens are left on Kruisvest. The Sint-Janshuis Mill, built in 1770 and still occupying its original site, is the only mill still grinding flour and the only mill open to visitors.

The mills Koeleweimolen and Sint-Janshuismolen are part of the city’s heritage. Both are still active grain mills. While the Sint-Janshuismolen (1770) still stands on its original location, the Koeleweimolen (1765) was moved to the Dampoort in 1996.
