’t Lisseweegs Vaartje (Lissewege Canal)

While Lissewege may have picturesque spots by the dozen, the Lissewege Canal tops them all. This old waterway, dug in the 13th century as a link to Bruges, is simply a pleasure for the eye. The ideal place to daydream. People used to have better things to do here. Via this canal, the Tournai bluestone that was needed for the construction of the church was brought in, and the well-endowed Ter Doest monks used this little waterway as a trade route to Bruges. Hard labour that leaves you hungry!
