Last Post ceremony
The Last Post, traditionally the last salute to those who fell, is being played under the Menin Gate by the clarion players of the Last Post Association, every evening at 8 p.m. This clarion call has been given since 1928 in honour of the British and Allied soldiers who fell in the Ypres Salient during WW I. The latter was allied territory, jutting out into German occupied terrain. But on ‘the other side’ also, many lost their lives. Former enemies, today we’re all partners in a united Europe, turning the Last Post sounding into a signal of hope for the future.
