Koeleweimolen (Koelewei Mill)

Windmills have graced Bruges’ ramparts ever since the construction of the outer city wall at the end of the 13th century. Today four specimens are left on Kruisvest. Sint-Janshuis Mill (1770) is still in its original spot and still grinding grain just like its neighbour Koelewei Mill. These are the only two mills you can visit.

The mills Koeleweimolen and Sint-Janshuismolen are part of the city’s heritage. Both are still active grain mills. While the Sint-Janshuismolen (1770) still stands on its original location, the Koeleweimolen (1765) was moved to the Dampoort in 1996.
