In 1897 King Leopold II requested German town planner Stübben to create a modern residential district at the north side of the city. The moats at Komvest and Gulden-Vlieslaan street were filled in so that they could be built over. The new park that was part of the project was named after mayor Amedée Visart de Bocarmé (1835-1924). After all, he was the principal promoter of green spaces in Bruges.
