Christmas shopping days 2018
The City Council has confirmed the 2018 festive period mobility plan. This year, we are expecting it to be very busy in the inner city. For this reason, there will be extra (traffic) measures taken on the following Saturdays and Sundays: 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30 December 2018 and 5 and 6 January 2019.
On these days, traffic will be restricted on the following roads between 1pm and 6 pm: Zuidzandstraat, Steenstraat, Geldmuntstraat, Noordzandstraat, the Markt and the passage between the Markt and the Eiermarkt.
This means that motor vehicles will not be permitted on these roads. Visitors who are staying on these roads or roads within the restricted area in accommodation with parking facilities and who are arriving or departing on one of these ten days will be given an exception and may drive through at walking pace, but this exception is limited to the Zuidzandstraat.
To ensure that the city remains accessible, there will be extra free parking available in the area around the inner city as well as the two central paid car parks at ‘Station’ and ‘Zand’. De Lijn buses will be running regularly to transport people - free of charge - from all parking areas and the station to the inner city and back.
Between midday and 6pm, the Zilverpand and Biekorf Car Parks will only be accessible to season ticket holders on the dates mentioned above. Other underground car parks will still be accessible for visitors.
