Ayako Ito Best addresses

In the late Middle Ages, Bruges was a cosmopolitan city and a melting pot of goods and nationalities. Today too, Bruges keeps with the times and is still commercially and culturally prominent. Many foreigners feel at home here and have since become real Bruges experts.  Their knowledge also includes the local range of good, established shops and trendy, young businesses. We would like to share some of their favourite addresses with you.

Ayako Ito is born in Tokyo, moved to Antwerp in 1998 and settled in Bruges in 2017. Here are her best addresses:

Rombaux

This fantastic music store is already a hundred years old. Building up a tradition of this kind is only possible if you offer nothing but the best. Here you can flick through music scores, handle and test new instruments, meet other musicians … reasons enough not to buy online.

Mallebergplaats 13, tel. +32 (0)50 33 25 75, www.rombaux.be

Villa Maria

In this delightful boutique you will find the latest collections of many leading fashion brands. Whenever I’m in urgent need of a new outfit, I head straight for Villa Maria. I know I’ll always leave with something elegant and stylish.

Gistelse Steenweg 18-28, tel. +32 (0)50 31 07 44, www.villamaria.be

Lilola

Here you can find lots of outfits and accessories, not only from international brands, but also from up-and-coming talent. Everything I buy here is perfect to wear for either a concert or a party. And on top of that, you get their reliable advice for free.

Frederiek Van Pamel

Entering Frederiek’s store is like entering another world. It is a wonderful place that combines interior design with flowers. Exotic, highly colourful and very stylish.

The Chocolate Line

Each time I leave for Japan, I first call in at The Chocolate Line, so that I can surprise my friends and family with the contemporary and original pralines for which the shop is rightly famous. Dominique Persoone’s chocolate creations are so tasty you can hardly keep your hands off them!

Simon Stevinsplein 19, tel. +32 (0)50 34 10 90, www.thechocolateline.be
