16/09/2018 Car-Free Sunday
The city of Bruges is organising a Car-Free Sunday on Sunday 16 September 2018. We will be holding various activities on this day in the historic city centre of Bruges. That’s why the city centre will be traffic-free between 10 am and 6 pm!
If you’re planning to visit Bruges on 16 September, we recommend taking the train. You can find an overview of the national and international train connections to Bruges here.
On Car-Free Sunday, you can travel for free on buses within the city area of Bruges. Extra shuttle buses will be laid on which will take you from the station to the city centre and vice-versa. Lines 1, 4, 6, 11, 13, 14 and 16 will travel to their terminuses via the ring-road (and not via the centre). On this day, taxis will use three special routes to travel to and from the station and there will be temporary bus stops on Sint-Jansplein and in Wollestraat. You can find the routes for buses and taxis for Car-Free Sunday on this plan.
However, if you still intend to come with your car, please use the ‘Zand’ or ‘Station’ central carparks. You can only access the other carparks in the city centre before 10 am and after 6 pm.
Visitors who come by car and stay in the city centre of Bruges on 16 September should preferably check in or out before 10 am or after 6 pm. Guests arriving or leaving between 10 am and 6 pm can drive into the city centre by showing their hotel or accommodation voucher provided that the voucher states the date of arrival or departure as 16 September. This voucher allows you to access all streets in the city centre, with the exception of the traffic-free routes. You can find the traffic-free routes (Zuidzandstraat, Steenstraat, Noorzandstraat, Geldmuntstraat, Markt, Philipstockstraat, Mallebergplaats, Breidelstraat, Burg, Burgstraat, Hoogstraat and Langestraat) on this plan. Please check with your accommodation before you start your journey.
